iPhone 11 Deep Fusion Camera- What’s New?
Apple’s Deep Fusion Camera technology is available thanks to iOS 13.2. If you are using the iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro, then you can use this new image-processing tech for taking better photos. Let’s have a look below:
What Is Deep Fusion?
Smartphones are not the complete replacements to professional cameras but Apple is making the iPhone a better camera every year.
This feature is only available on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. These phones are using Apple’s iOS 13. There are several significant improvements to their camera setup that include improved sensors, a night mode, an ultra wide-angle lens, and slow-motion selfies. The Deep Fusion Camera was released with the iOS 13.2 and it was updated on October 28, 2019.
Apple’s Phil Schiller told that it is computational photography mad science. The majority of the smart phones are doing their best to improve image quality in very dark environments with the help of Night Mode and very bright environments using HDR. But still, photos lose some quality. The Deep Fusion Camera is aiming to reduce noise and improving detail for photos taken in medium to low-light conditions mainly indoor shots.
To demonstrate all this, Apple used several samples of people wearing sweaters. It is an item of clothing that frequently loses detail in photos. The sweaters and other items in the shots were taken using the Deep Fusion Camera are having more details and they retain their natural texture.
Working Mechanism
According to Apple, the new model is using the iPhone 11’s new A13 Bionic chip for the “pixel-by-pixel processing of photos, optimizing texture, details, and noise in every portion of the photo. This mechanism is similar to the iPhone camera’s Smart HDR that takes several shots at different exposures and combines it for enhancing the clarity in the finished image.
The actual thing Deep Fusion is doing in the background is very complicated. When the user presses the shutter button in medium light, the camera takes nine pictures, four short images, four secondary images, and one long exposure photos. After this, it fuses the long-exposure with the best among the short images. The processor goes pixel by pixel and selects the best elements from both for creating the most detailed photo possible. All of this is happening in one second.
This all is made possible by the A13 Bionic chip and it is the strongest processor in a commercial Smartphone.
How to Get Deep Fusion on Your iPhone
To get this feature, you will need an iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, or iPhone 11 Pro Max for using the Deep Fusion. It will be compatible with future iPhones, too but it is not compatible with the hardware in past iPhones.
Your iPhone needs iOS 13.2 as well. If it is running an older version of iOS, then you will not get Deep Fusion. For updating your phone, you have to go to Settings > General > Software Update. Ensure that your Wi-Fi is on.
When your phone is updated, then you have to go to Settings > Camera and turn off “Photos Capture Outside the Frame.” It is a handy feature and it is incompatible with the Deep Fusion mode.
Hope now you are aware of how the Deep Fusion Feature works on iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max. Do share your thoughts.
